The pandemic has accentuated the health, economic, and social crises that many countries in Latin America and the Caribbean now face. Our communities in cities and rural areas must find ways to heal and to regroup as they set out to become the productive homes of citizens, workers, and neighbors. Art and culture have always contributed to envisioning human possibility, encouraging collective imagination, and creating pathways for change that touch every aspect of our societies, from the economic to the spiritual to the social to the technological.
In light of the situation and the challenges and opportunities now in front of us, a special summit is being convened that will bring together cultural leaders, artists, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) experts, and others for panel discussions and specially commissioned live art performances to provoke and inspire useful ways to address the concerns of the post-pandemic era. The Summit is part of the IDB’s commitment to be at the forefront of efforts to control and recover from the coronavirus pandemic. The IDB seeks to generate solutions that will allow our member countries to regain health and reignite economic growth in the wake of this historic crisis.
